MUNTJAC STALKING

Chris Rogers is Head Stalker on the Euston Estate in Suffolk and one of the most knowledgable and unassuming men you will meet in the world of deer.

Things to notice in this short film are the suspended gralloch in the field and the liner to the carcass tray in the boot of the truck. The red plastic lattice is simply an old bread crate with the sides removed and cut to fit. Its function is to keep the carcass out of the blood that drains from the animal during its journey to the larder. The point is to have as clean a carcass and a work area as possible. Less blood soaked into the hair of the animal, less to drip out later and the cleaner the work site and your hands. The cleaner the carcass the better the quality of the end food product.
